Thread splitter
Paste something long and get a numbered thread back, cut at sentences rather than mid-word, with each post measured the way the platform measures it.
Put --- on a line of its own to force a new post there.
Set by the platform; change it for a Mastodon server with a different limit.

Nothing to split yet. Paste some text or try the sample.
How the splitter decides where to cut
Each post is filled with as much text as fits, then the splitter looks back for the best place to end it: a paragraph break first, then the end of a sentence or line, and only then the space between two words. It never cuts inside a link. A single word longer than a whole post is the only thing it will break in the middle.
The numbers are counted too. Room for “12/12” is kept in every post, so adding the numbering never pushes a post over. Posts are measured by the platform's own rules, as of October 2026: on X a link costs 23 and an emoji 2, on Threads an emoji costs its size in bytes, and Bluesky counts long links in their shortened form.
Tips for a thread people finish
- Make the first post work on its own: it is the one that gets shared.
- Use
---where you want a cliffhanger, or tick “new post at every paragraph” if you have already written one paragraph per post. - Read the posts in order before you publish; a cut that is correct can still land awkwardly.
Questions
Can I post the whole thread from here?
No, the splitter does not connect to any account. Copy each post with its own button and paste it as a reply to the one before, or use Copy all to keep the thread in your notes.
Why is the last post so short?
The splitter fills posts from the start, so whatever is left over ends up last. If it bothers you, add a --- line a little earlier to move text into the final post.
Does the number at the end count towards the limit?
Yes. The label and the space before it are counted in every post, and space is kept for the widest number in the thread.
